Wittenberg Picnic

It was a bittersweet and special (post) 4th of July picnic at the Wittenbergs. With Nonnie's health rapidly declining it was understood by most of us that most likely it would be the last family event that she would be attending with all of us there. Grandpa went and got her from the memory care facility that she now lives at.. it was so special to spend the time with her!

The 4th of July

Since we had been around unpatriotic groups for the past 7 years, the little girls hardly had much knowledge about our country's past.. Its been fun this past school year (2017-2018) teaching them Early American history. This year the 4th of July had a richer meaning to them.. and we thoroughly enjoyed celebrating it- Americana style! :-)

Henline Falls Hike

We enjoyed a lovely hike to Henline Falls and the old abandoned mine located near the falls

Beautiful foxgloves lined the hike.. as well as ripe huckleberries of course!

Woodpecker holes

So fun to cool off in the pool once we arrived at the falls

Mandy & Gracie decide to climb up the face of the rock cliff to check out the abandoned mine

Mama climbed up too!
Daddy's Turn!

Ash too! It was wet and smelly and the tunnel was closed off... but hey, at least we can say we went, we climbed, we saw! Time to head home!

It was such perfect weather for a fun family hike. We are hoping to get in a few more throughout the summer, time & Lord willing!
